Idiotic Interpretation
Aal is not well............!!
___________________________________________________
It was around 7:30pm when I got down from my office cab. I daily used to reach my drop point at around 6:45 and today it was delayed by 45 min due to heavy traffic near ring road. I had got irritated by sitting in the cab for one and half hour and listening to those continuous ear blasting horns. I thought of calling Arun and chatting with him for a while to get back to my mood. I dialled his Number.
Arun is my cousin who is studying 2nd year of engineering in IIT Kharagpur, Very intelligent, talkative and very sensitive personality. His method of studying was impressive. Regularly bounding to his schedule made him get good results in exam (unlike us who used to study at the (N-1) month always, where N is the month of exam!). He also had an appealing voice which can impress people. I always used to tease him when he used to come first in Speech competitions that, it his voice which impresses the Judges and not his points!! He had started preparing for IIT exam from SSLC and his hard efforts resulted in getting him an IIT seat at Kharagpur. He continued his consistency in studies at IIT too and everything was going smooth in his life.
He picked my call and we started speaking. However I found from his voice that he was not in his best of moods and is involved in some deep thought. Just trying to hide that from me. As I knew this nature of him, I asked him what the matter is. He said “nothing” initially, but after I forced him to speak out what really he is involved into, Arun started speaking in his natural voice. He asked me “Shesh have you seen 3 Idiots”? I said “yes of course, I have seen” and gave some good comments on the movie.
He took a deep breath as if he is gathering all the matter which he wants to talk with me and then he spoke “Shesh, after I saw that movie I am feeling like that movie is made to give me a message. I am really feeling bored about this college. We spend half of our time in solving assignments and submitting them. We are forced to sit in the class though we aren’t interested in all of them. And that means I am not doing which is enjoyable. Now I am feeling like I should not have entered Engineering. You know Shesh, what really my dream was? It was to become a Radio jockey. And still it is. I never shared that dream of mine with anybody because I knew nobody would have agreed to that. Everyone would have forced me to do engineering. I had a good voice and becoming a radio jockey would not have been difficult for me. But Now I am struck with engineering. Though I can become an RJ after engineering, it would be too late and also these 4 years will be entirely wasteful. Now I am feeling I took a wrong step. I am slowly loosing interest in my studies and however percentage of my engineering would not matter for me to become a RJ. Now I don’t know what to do and sometimes I also feel like discontinuing my engineering and do some degree in ARTS”
I was shocked listening to Arun’s words. He had put his efforts continuously for four years to get a seat in IIT. And now he was telling as if he is going to put his efforts in vein. I thought for a while and decided to speak what I feel about this with him.
I said “Arun listen, you are entirely mis interpreting message of the movie. Every one will have a dream. And for most of the people dream keeps on changing. The single dream can only last long when you have the passion about it. You may have dreamt to become a RJ. But it was never your passion. I think you don’t know even the name of a Single RJ!. And do you think only a good voice can make you a good RJ? ……No……You need to be precise, Use right words at right time and respond quickly to some one who is speaking with you without making the things look odd. And you are not a kind of instantaneous person to do all those.
See Arun, each person will have some strength. When those strengths are matching with their dream, then you can realise the dream. And you can develop those strengths when it is your Passion. Without the passion and strength if you want to achieve your dream it is Difficult.
And also you never told about your dream to any body because even you wanted to become an engineer. You wanted to earn more money by becoming an engineer. Though it was not your passion, you had the strengths to get that seat and you are doing well presently too, as per your results of last Sem Exams. I thought to push the things into his head so that it can change his thinking way. Other wise he was going to ruin his life by misinterpreting the message of the movie.
I continued my lecture. “You had the habit of studying regularly. You had good logic of problem solving and you are good at visualising the things. If you ask me none other than mechanical engineering will suit you considering all these. And regarding your classes and assignments, yes I agree. They may be little boring. Some of the classes may seem boring for you because, you will have some Subject in which you are deeply interested and rest of the subject may not create the interest to read them. But remember though some things appear boring in life, learning them is very important. They will definitely come to your help in the future as everything has a linkage in this world.
So what I meant to say you is, don’t ruin your life by these kinds of interpretations. Just try to concentrate back on the subjects. It may appear hard to you for some days. But you will enjoy the results after the completion of the course. And after all you can always realise your dream of becoming an RJ once you finish your engineering also.”
He seemed to be little convinced. But he was not the person who turned his heart suddenly at one shot. He always took his time to think and made his decisions. That’s why I gave him a big lecture so that this wrong interpretation of him doesn’t get hardened in his mind.
The ear blasting horns appeared resistible than these kinds of mind blasting thoughts flashing in the person’s head. I had reached home and was standing before my locked door for half an hour talking with Arun. I rushed into the house to get myself fresh.

Welcome to Blogger's family Shesh.. Finally!!! Its a good post.. I agree with you when you say tehre is a difference in dream and passion.. but shesh, one needs passion to chase his dreams. And one can think of his dreams only when his stomach is full and he has a place to sleep. Anyways Good luck.. Welcome again.
ReplyDeletecertainly reminded me of my difficult days in engg.... a story which I can connect to and very mature answer from u shesh..... will start blogging again.... :)
ReplyDeleteFor the time being i hav nothing to say. But will closely watch this space for chintanas from u!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
instinctive decisions always kill...
ReplyDeletea million times even i feel like giving up everything and being a lecturer or something like that...
But then..i speak to myself..i say..if not now then when will i struggle...life isnt a bed of roses...!!
Good one shesh
Good one dude, as they say '' THIS IS MR. SHESHACHAL''
ReplyDeleteIt really good topic to discuss. B4 3 idiots no one cared wat they r doin, never thought bout there passion, (even if thry had, burried it inside them).
God has given this interesting thing, called 'MIND' ( u can take it as brain/soul). I say it interesting bcoz it never sticks to one thing, like a butterfly, moving from one flower to other, ''CHANCHAL MANN'' they say. When once asked in school bout wat i want to be, at very young age, i told farmer, then during higher schooling, i told mayb school teacher, then in pu i saw everyone competing for professional course, i too joined the race, became finally an engineer ( not yet sucessful )
I feel its the nature of mind to b so. Trying to control it is like arresting it, not allowing it to b free, in mechanical terms ''CONTRAINING'' it. Sometime u like something, u want to do it, but u cant, mayb bcoz, u feel the ''STRENGtH'' dats actually needed for doing that thing, u may not have it. Now this is wat u think, but have u tried it???
No, now wat u feel is, u like something but u cant do it.
I feel u need to go after ''PASSION'' after u are successful, self sufficient, happy with wat u have done so far in life. I agree it may take long time, but as they say
''PICTURE ABHI BAAKI HAI MERE DOST''
Long time back i had read bout a guy how after retirement, bot a cruise bike and went on for a visiting interesting places in his country. His passion was biking. Mayb/hope i too chase my so called ''PASSION'' very soon.
@Nivedita
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot nivi.....I am happy that you are the first to comment in my blog....!
@Shantanu
Thanks shan....yeah i know this type of conflict happens in almost everybody's life.
How a person takes a decision at these moments decides his life !!
@Preetesh
As you wish Mr.Engineer.
@Harsha
I always like your bold and clear statesments.
Thanks for peeping into my blog.
@Anonymus
Hmmm....nice interpretation...and thanks for stating it here...Would have been better if you would have mentioned your name.....

ReplyDeleteWell tried in taming the bull, but in my opinion, the zeal that's built into you reduces or fades away the day you enter the mechanical life in the job. I know few DJs and RJs who have started the profession when they were graduating. I'm sure Arun being an IITian can manage mutlitasking. I would say, give a shot. There is nothing wrong. Because the mental itch of not pursuing the desired, always ends in a miserable life. Study for 6days, spend Sunday on RJ task. He can plan. My view is inline with Niveditha. If Arun is really passionate I am sure I will hear to the voice of RJ.Arun one day or may be a radio station from Arun :) Arun, zoom into your ideas and learn what you are good at and fire a shot.
ReplyDelete@Sheshchal Never let your blog to starve. Keep feeding blogfood to it :)
